MN DFL: A Referendum on Governor Pawlenty
Press Release: A Referendum on Governor Pawlenty
Minnesota’s governor sided with super-conservatives in the culture fight in New York — and lost.
St. Paul (November 4, 2009) — The DFL Party released this statement from Chair Brian Melendez on the defeat of Governor Pawlenty’s candidate in the special election in New York’s 23rd Congressional District:
“The results in the NY–23 special election are a referendum on the ultra-conservative, exclusionary views of Governor Pawlenty, Sarah Palin, Rick Santorum and the myriad other extremists working to push moderates out of the Republican Party. The Governor waded into the GOP culture war, sided with the most right-wing members of his party, and got a well-deserved rebuke from the voters in yesterday’s election. The Republican Party is growing more and more marginalized and, with officials like Governor Pawlenty pandering to the far right at every opportunity, it’s not hard to see why.”
