On the Ukrainian issue, the former president does not rule out that Kyiv will have to cede some territories to Russia in order to end the war that began with the invasion of Russian forces into Ukraine 16 months ago. Trump said everything would be “negotiable” if he were US president, but stressed that the Ukrainians, who are fighting fiercely for their land, deserved great respect. “I think they’re going to keep a lot of what they’ve got. “However, if Putin falls from power, we don’t know what the alternative is. It could get better, but it could also get much worse,” the former US president pointed out. As for the war crimes charges against Putin, Trump said the matter should be discussed after the war, “because if we bring it up now, there’s no way we’re going to make peace, there’s no way we’re going to resolve” the conflict.
However, the former US president refused to weigh in on whether the US should provide military support to Taiwan if the island is attacked by China.
“I’m not going to talk about that because that would hurt my negotiating position. All I can tell you is that for four years there was no threat. And that it wouldn’t happen if I’m president.” Trump emphasized.
