The Speaker of the Lower House of the US Congress, Nancy Pelosi, strongly condemned the “illegal and deadly attacks by Azerbaijan” against Armenia, the world news reported. Pelosi is on a three-day visit to the Armenian capital, Yerevan. The occasion clashed with Azerbaijan, which claimed the lives of 215 people. The fighting was stopped on Thursday with international mediation, BNR recalls.
According to Pelosi, her visit is a strong symbol of the firm commitment of the United States to a peaceful, prosperous, and democratic Armenia, as well as to a stable and secure Caucasus region. “As for what Armenia expects, we expect active support for democracy, sovereignty, and territorial integrity in all possible directions,” Alen Simonyan, Speaker of the Armenian Parliament, told the press conference.
Nancy Pelosi is the highest-ranking representative of the United States to visit Yerevan since independence from the former Soviet Union in 1991.
There were two wars between Armenia and Azerbaijan – in the 2020s and the 90s over the Nagorno-Karabakh region.
