Seven NATO countries want Ukraine in the alliance
They signed a joint statement expressing support for her accession
Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, together with the heads of state of several other NATO member countries from Central and Eastern Europe, signed a joint statement confirming their support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, the Romanian presidency announced today, Agerpress reported.
Together with the Presidents of π¨πΏ πͺπͺ π±π» π±πΉ π²π° π²πͺ π΅π± πΈπ°, I reiterate our support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine πΊπ¦. We firmly stand behind the 2008 Bucharest NATO Summit decision concerning Ukraine’s future membership.
“We, the heads of state of Central and Eastern European countries, countries whose leaders visited Kyiv during the war and saw with their own eyes the consequences of Russian aggression, cannot remain silent in the face of the gross violation of international law by the Russian Federation, which is why we issue the following statement: We reaffirm our support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine. We do not and will never recognize Russia’s attempts to annex Ukrainian territories. We strongly support the decision of the 2008 NATO summit in Bucharest on future accession of Ukraine,” the joint statement said.
The signatories of the declaration called on Russia to immediately withdraw from all occupied territories.
“We support Ukraine in its defense against Russian invasion, demand that Russia immediately withdraw from all occupied territories, and encourage all allied countries to significantly increase their military aid to Ukraine. All those who commit crimes of aggression must be held accountable and brought to justice before the court,” the document says.
The declaration was signed by the President of Romania Klaus Iohannis, the President of the Czech Republic Milos Zeman, the President of Estonia Alar Karis, the President of Latvia Egils Levites, the President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausea, the President of the Republic of North Macedonia Stevo Pendarovski, the President of the Republic of Montenegro Milo Djukanovic, the President of Poland Andrzej Duda, the President of Slovakia Zuzana Czaputova.
