Ukraine must decide for itself under what conditions it would be willing to negotiate with Russia to end the war, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said, adding that the alliance’s role is to support Kyiv, Reuters reported.
“What conditions would be acceptable for it depends solely on Ukraine. And what depends on us is to support Kyiv,” he said at a joint press conference in The Hague with representatives of the Dutch government. “We should not make the mistake of underestimating Russia. It still controls large parts of Ukraine. What we need to do is that in any negotiations, Kyiv can lead them from the most advantageous starting positions.”
Stoltenberg visited the Netherlands today, where he met with its foreign and defense ministers Wopke Hoekstra and Kaisa Olongren.
