Former United States President Donald Trump posted on Facebook and YouTube today for the first time since being suspended two years ago following the January 6, 2021 storming of the Capitol by his supporters.
“I’m back!” the former American leader, who will fight for a second term in 2024, simply wrote on his profile.
Trump accompanied his text with a short, pre-recorded video in which he said, “I’m sorry I kept you waiting, it was complicated.”
Facebook’s parent company, Meta Platforms Inc, officially reinstated Trump’s account in February this year, saying the public should be able to hear what politicians have to say, including “the good, the bad, and the ugly.”
On Friday, Google-owned YouTube also restored Trump’s access to its platform, following similar moves by Meta and Twitter.
Trump, who is campaigning for president in 2024, was suspended from YouTube platforms after the riots at the US Capitol for allegedly violating rules on incitement to violence.
