Trump responded to the committee: The allegations against me are false

Donald Trump has accused the investigative committee of recommending “false charges” against him as part of an attempt to prevent him from running for the White House again, AFP reported. “The false accusations made by the highly biased committee on January 6th have now been presented, prosecuted, and tried in the form of impeachment fraud #2,” Trump said on his social platform.

“I won convincingly,” he added. “This whole impeachment thing against me is exactly what the impeachment was – a one-sided attempt to remove the Republican Party and me,” the former president added.

Earlier, the investigative committee in the US House of Representatives on the storming of the Capitol on January 6, 2021, recommended that federal prosecutors file riot charges against former President Donald Trump, BTA reported, citing Reuters. The Democratic-led special committee asked the Justice Department to file charges against the former Republican president, including obstruction of an official proceeding in Congress, conspiracy to defraud the United States, and sedition. The request is not binding, but could increase pressure on prosecutors, who are conducting multiple investigations against Trump, to take action, Reuters noted.
