US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said the Biden administration will not ease sanctions against Venezuela until the country’s President Nicolas Maduro takes “constructive steps” to ensure “free elections”, AP reported.
Earlier reports claimed that the US would ease its sanctions policy to allow Chevron to resume oil production in the Latin American country.
Blinken added that Maduro must ease “the suffering of the Venezuelan people, who are the biggest victims of the regime’s policies.”
He warned that the sanctions against Venezuela could be strengthened “if there are even more repressions by the regime”.
