Hurricane Ian left Cuba without power

Cuba fell into darkness.

The power outage is due to the damage caused to the power grid by Hurricane Ian, the state energy company Union Eléctrica announced. “The country is without power,” the company said on Twitter and explained this with the passage of the category 3 hurricane through the western part of the island.

In the province of Pinar del Río, 50,000 people were preemptively evacuated and 55 temporary centers were established to provide shelter. Measures were also taken to protect tobacco plantations. The element, which hit the western part of Cuba with winds of up to 205 kilometers per hour, did not claim any victims. Now “Ian” is headed for Florida. It is expected that moving over the Gulf of Mexico, it will strengthen and hit the US state already as a Category 4 hurricane. In Florida, 2.5 million people were ordered to evacuate, BTA reported.
