Thousands demonstrated in the US in defense of abortion rights
"We will not go back," chanted the demonstrators, most of whom were women, calling for a Democratic vote in the November election to save women's rights from the conservative offensive.
Thousands demonstrated in a number of US cities, including the capital Washington, in defense of the right to abortion, reported France Press, quoted by BTA.
“We will not go back,” chanted the demonstrators, most of whom were women, calling for a Democratic vote in the November election to save women’s rights from the conservative offensive.
Many of the demonstrators carried blue flags, a symbol of the Democrats, with the words “Vote” on them.
There were similar demonstrations in New York, Denver, and Colorado. However, in places, there were also counter-demonstrations by opponents of abortion.
In late June, the US Supreme Court struck down the constitutional right to abortion. Immediately, a number of Republican-led states banned abortion on their territory and began legal battles over the issue.
In Arizona, an appeals court on Friday ruled that abortions can once again be performed on the territory of this state.
