The World Bank has announced additional aid to Ukraine of $ 1.5 billion, bringing the total aid package to more than $ 4 billion. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in late February created a humanitarian crisis and devastated the country’s economy, destroying infrastructure and blocking key grain exports, and depleting the government’s ability to pay its bills.
The new funding will be used to pay the salaries of state and social workers, the IMF said in a statement, noting that nearly $ 2 billion has been paid with the new funds so far.
The World Bank “provides continued support to Ukraine and its people in the context of the ongoing war,” according to a statement from the bank’s president, David Malpas, quoted by BGNES. “We are working with donor countries to mobilize financial support and use the flexibility of our various financial instruments to help Ukrainians gain access to health services, education and social protection,” he added.
