The coronavirus in the world: the USA with the highest number of deaths in a day

According to statistics, of these, more than 6.87 million have died and more than 660.8 million have recovered so far. It should be noted that in recent days new cases worldwide have been between about 350,000 – 400,000 daily – figures far from previous severe waves of the contagion.

However, since the beginning of December, it should be noted that the infected is increasing, and this is mainly due to the new subvariant XVV.1.5 of Omicron. Scientists have already reported that this is the most contagious strain of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic so far.

There has also been a huge drop in deaths, averaging between 500 and 1,000 per day since the beginning of March – again far from previous waves, compared to January 21, 2021, at the height of the wave caused by the Alpha variant, which saw the highest 16,877 victims. Close to these data were the subsequent peaks caused by the Delta and Omicron variants.

The WHO also admitted that there has been a serious drop in the number of deaths. According to the organization, victims have decreased by 90 percent compared to February of this year, when the Omicron variant was at its peak. And although it is less deadly, it still caused many deaths, as the infected were many times more than in the previous waves.

The leader in terms of the most detected infections remains the United States, where they have already exceeded 106.8 million. In second place in the gloomy statistics is India – there more than 44.9 million people have been infected so far. Third is France with over 40 million proven cases. The top ten are completed by Germany, Brazil, South Korea, Japan, Italy, Great Britain, and Russia.

As for the data on the dead, the United States is also first – so far there have been 1,163,294 victims of the coronavirus there, which is more than a sixth of all fatal cases. Brazil is second with over 702,000 dead, and India is third with over 531,000 victims so far. It is followed by Russia, Mexico, Peru, Great Britain, Italy, Indonesia, and France.

The highest number of infections per day was reported again in South Korea – 26,147. In second place is Vietnam with 2,043, and in third place is Mexico, where 1,653 infections were officially reported. However, it should be noted that these data are incomplete, as China already announced in December that it would stop providing up-to-date data on the infected.

The uncertainty surrounding the situation led the WHO director to announce that the data did not reflect the full picture of the country. However, it is clear that the country is firmly at the top of the charts, and the figures are terrifying, possibly surpassing the million daily mark.

For example, today it became clear that in Shanghai with 25 million people, about 70 percent of the population is currently infected, which means about 18 million active infections. Hundreds of millions are infected according to unofficial data, with nearly 90 million infected in Hanan alone.

According to experts, the rampant spread of the HVV.1.5 variant, known as Kraken, has put the Chinese health system on the verge of collapse. Due to the terrifying peak of the infection, the European Union recommended the imposition of general measures against travelers from the country.

Thus, for another week, the tendency for the pandemic to conquer new territories in Asia is confirmed, with Japan, South Korea, China, Taiwan, Indonesia, and Hong Kong being the countries that are often at the forefront of the gloomy statistics. This is also evident from the weekly statistics, where the first two countries are also in the lead. In Europe, France and Russia continue the battle with a new mini-peak of the infection.

In terms of daily deaths, the USA is in the lead with 29 deaths, followed by Mexico with 18 and Hong Kong with 14. With this indicator, again, the proviso that there is no data on what is happening in China applies.

As for the number of deaths per million population, Peru remains at the top with 6,537 victims. Bulgaria is second globally in terms of this indicator with 5,604 victims per million population.

Followed by Hungary, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Georgia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Lithuania, and Romania – all countries from the former socialist camp.
